Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Vaduthala,celebrated Book Week in connection with the 122nd birth anniversary of Sri P N Panikkar. Puthuvayil Narayana Panicker known as the Father of the Library Movement in the Indian state of Kerala spearheaded the activities of the Kerala Grandhasala Sangham which triggered a popular cultural movement in Kerala and produced universal literacy in the state in the 1990s.
The formal inauguration of the Book Week was held on 20/6/22 in the school auditorium. A skit on the importance of reading was performed by the students of classes 7,8 and 9. In the fiction parade that was a part of the skit, children dressed up as Matilda, Queen of Hearts, Harry Potter, the White Rabbit, Tin Tin and other all-time favourites from children's literature. A Reading Day song enlivened the skit. The Reading Day pledge was taken by the whole school. Colorful balloons were released and it implied the soaring imagination that books promise to young minds. Prizes were awarded to the children for reading maximum number of books in the academic year 2021-22. Story writing competition was held on the same day. The other competitions held over the week to sustain the interest of the students in reading comprised book mark making with a slogan, book cover designing, fiction parade and poetry writing.
